The savings element can be used to pay premiums to keep the life insurance in force if you can’t pay them otherwise, or it can be used for any other purpose you choose. You can borrow these funds even if your credit is shaky. The death benefit is collateral for the loan, and if you die before it’s repaid, the insurance company collects what is due the company before determining what’s goes to your beneficiary. Keep in mind that premiums for permanent policies are generally higher than for term insurance. However, the premium in a permanent policy remains the same no matter how old you are, while term can go up substantially every time you renew it. 2. They don’t have to be “scary,” they just have to make you scared.

What might be a nightmare for you could be a normal dream for someone else. As long as it creates a strong negative emotional response, it’s a nightmare, says Breus. For example, just dreaming about your horrible ex could be a nightmare for you if it stirs up sadness and anger — even if they’re just sitting on your couch, harmless.

3. It’s true that you can only dream about people you’ve met or seen before… kind of.

When you sleep, your memories are being processed from the short term to long term, says Breus, and these make up most of the images in your nightmares. You can also dream of stuff you’ve seen in movies or books. There can technically be new “characters” in a nightmare, but they’re really an amalgamation of faces you’ve already seen, says Breus.

4. The emotional response to nightmares can actually wake you up.

You know when you wake up frantically at 4 a.m. suddenly realizing you’re not in a zombie apocalypse? Here’s why: Research has shown that a lot of dreaming occurs in the visual cortex, Breus says, which is linked to the amygdala, an emotional response center. During a nightmare, both these get fired up and trigger autonomic arousal of the body. “Your heart starts beating faster, breathing becomes labored, and you can start sweating profusely from a nightmare,” he says. Cue waking up in a panic.

5. Nightmares can’t actually kill you.

“There’s no evidence that a nightmare can physically harm or kill you,” says Breus. However, there is data to show that in people with a weak heart or existing heart condition, increased heart rate during sleep could lead to angina (chest pain due to restricted blood flow to the heart) or possibly heart attacks. As we mentioned before, it’s possible that nightmares could cause increased heart rate, but so could a lot of things, says Breus. So that wouldn’t really be a nightmare doing harm so much as an underlying heart problem.

6. Sometimes, nightmares can be good.

“Some patients I see would be upset if their nightmares stopped,” Pagel says. If they don’t cause significant distress, nightmares can be exciting, and even a major source of inspiration. “People who experience vivid and frequent nightmares tend to be more creative individuals with ‘loose borders,’ meaning they are more imaginative,” Pagel says. In addition to helping process emotions, nightmares can also give pretty useful alternative perspectives on certain issues or people.

7. Some people are at a higher risk for nightmares than others.

Depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric disorders are major risk factors for nightmares, says Breus. Sleep disorders such as insomnia or sleep apnea, are also associated with frequent nightmares. And since many sleep disorders are genetic, it’s possible that chronic and severe nightmares could run in your family.

Wonder of why we yawn? Get these human facts now!

Yawn is a very normal reflex act of the body. And all of us yawns, no one in this world don’t yawn, from the infant and even unborn babies to the elderly persons. Of course, animals do it, too. We always think that we yawn when we’re sleepy, but is that true? And why, exactly, do people and animals yawn? Now. let’s follow this article to find the reasons why human and animals yawn and how it happen!!!

Why do we yawn?

No one knows for sure. But there are many theories (ideas) about why people yawn.

One is that when we are bored or tired, we just don’t breathe as deeply as we usually do. As this theory goes, our bodies take in less oxygen because our breathing has slowed. Therefore, yawning helps us bring more oxygen into the blood and move more carbon dioxide out of the blood.

Yawning, then, would be an involuntary reflex (something we can’t really control) to help us control our oxygen and carbon dioxide levels. Sounds good, but other studies have shown that breathing more oxygen does not decrease yawning. Likewise, breathing more carbon dioxide does not increase yawning. Hmmm. Now what?

Another theory is that yawning stretches the lungs and lung tissue. Stretching and yawning may be a way to flex muscles and joints, increase heart rate, and feel more awake.

Other people believe that yawning is a protective reflex to redistribute the oil-like substance called surfactant (say: sur-FAK-tint) that helps keep lungs lubricated inside and keeps them from collapsing. So, if we didn’t yawn, according to this theory, taking a deep breath would become harder and harder, and that would not be good!

When a person yawns, the stretching of powerful jaw muscles increases blood flow in the head, neck and face and also sends cerebrospinal fluid downward, away from the brain.

Likewise, during a yawn the walls of the sinuses flex, and when combined with the wide opening of your gaping maw, together they draw large quantities of air in through the nasal cavities, mouth and sinus passages.

But there is one idea about yawning that everyone knows to be true. It seems contagious. If you yawn in class, you’ll probably notice a few other people will start yawning, too. Even thinking about yawning can get you yawning.
